In 1994, the BBC World Service 1 began broadcasting a popular radio soap opera called 'New Home New Life' in Pashto and Dari languages with prominent land-mine themes. It was produced in Peshawar, Pakistan by the Afghan Education Projects and was broadcasted by the BBC and re-broadcasted by Radio Pakistan. The programme promotes the safe return home of displaced people and refugees, and the resumption of essential economic activities. Another objective is to enhance good relations between Afghan communities and the demining teams. In addition it includes a range of messages on health, education, agriculture, income generation, environment, gender equity, conflict resolution and security.
