The NVO laboratory of AFRL/HECV is responsible for the following four research areas within the NVD IPT. The first area, night lighting systems, is concerned with cockpit lighting, formation flying/refueling, and covert runway lights. The second research area, NVG enhancements, addresses wider fields-of-view, better resolution, and compatible head-up displays. The third area, NVG measurement, is dedicated to assessing and validating system performance. The focus of this project is development of a standardized method to measure the optical performance characteristics of the NVG system. The final research area is concerned with human factors and human performance using night vision devices. A significant activity underway is studying NVG focusing requirements for maximizing mission safety and effectiveness.
