Ongoing development efforts of Quantum Magnetics for mine detection sytems should lead to products for both military and humanitarian demining applications. Quantum Magnetics` efforts have been supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), with additional support from the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy for the Marine Corps. Quantum`science and technology team has developed several critical breakthroughs in quadrupole resonance (QR) technology, including prototype devices to identify small, hard to detect plastic anti-personnel landmines. Though the technology principles are sophisticated, the equipment will provide the operator with a simple red/green light indicator when the sensor detects a landmine. Prototype units have demonstrated their effectiveness during tests in both the U.S. and Bosnia. The U.S. Patent Office awarded the company a patent to recognize its innovative method for detecting explosives and contraband using QR technology.
