The Technology Unit at the University of Warwick and the Development Technology Workshop Ltd. have been working together to design equipment for demining. Staff have visited or carried out programmes in Cambodia, Southern Africa and Bosnia. This work has resulted in polycarbonate visors and improved hand tools being produced in Cambodia and Zimbabwe and has led to production of a vegetation clearance machine, Tempest. Close working colloboration and testing of the designs with local mine clearance agencies have been carried out, such that the group now has a solid base of experience of the realities of mine clearance.
