Non-Technical Survey (NTS) is an important component of the Land Release (LR) process. NTS is the first operational step of the LR process and can be seen as the foundation for all subsequent LR activities.
This NTS Guide aims to provide an introduction to Non-Technical Survey (NTS) based on lessons learnt from the development and standardisation of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) NTS Training Course. It is also the result of years of field observations and contributions from field practitioners from all over the world.
It will serve as pre-course reading material; it will complement the practical learning and support it. It is also intended to complement IMAS Chapter 07.11 on Land Release and IMAS Chapter 08.10 on Non-Technical Survey.
In the future, this guide will be updated as needed with the aim to continously improve NTS efforts.
