Representatives of 19 African countries, African civil society organisations and international NGOs gathered in Maputo, Mozambique for a regional conference on the bombing of civilians on the 27-28 November 2017.

The subjects discussed at the conference were:

  • the impact the use of explosive weapons in populated areas have on civilians
  • the actors who use the explosive weapons and the situations in which they use them
  • the various types of explosive weapons used
  • legal framework, policies and practices required to better control the use of these weapons.

The goal was to raise awareness of the use of explosive weapons and to encourage African countries to take action to protect civilians from the impact of explosive weapons in populated areas.
