7 March 2019

On 6 March 2019, the Ammunition Management Advisory Team’s (AMAT) Advisory Council held its first meeting at the GICHD with the participation of representatives from seven countries and eight organisations engaged in improving ammunition management. This was an opportunity to introduce AMAT, discuss its strategy, work plan for 2019 and its mode of operations.

AMAT was jointly established by the GICHD and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, and is financially supported by Switzerland and Germany. Its objectives are to reduce the risks from diversion and unplanned explosions at munitions sites through the provision of capacity development support to States, the furthering of knowledge, and the facilitation of more effective and sustainable cooperation and assistance.

AMAT is a contribution to the implementation of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Agenda for Disarmament.
