20 February 2015

For four days this week in Geneva, 419 registered delegates representing 60 countries and 102 organisations participated in the biggest annual meeting of mine action actors.  "More than Mines: The Evolution of Mine Action" was the theme of this year's meeting, co-organised by the GICHD and the UN Inter-Agency Coordination Group on Mine Action.

During the course of the meeting, GICHD director, Ambassador Stefano Toscano, made remarks to delegates during the First Plenary session on "Evolution of Mine Action - Emerging and Rising Threats and New Responses."

Looking forward, the GICHD will continue to work to fulfill its mission, as laid out in the 2015-2018 Strategy:

"The GICHD supports the continual improvement of mine action performance and relevance. The Centre enables national authorities, international bodies, mine action organisations and other partners to do their job better by furthering knowledge, promoting norms and standards, and developing capacity."
