14 December 2017

On the 20th anniversary of the adoption and signature of the Anti-personnel mine ban Convention, the Sixteenth Meeting of the States Parties (16MSP) will be held in Vienna, Austria from 18-21 December.  States Parties and not party to the Convention, interested organisations and members of civil society will convene to assess progress in implementing the Convention’s obligations and discuss how to ensure the promise of a world free of mines is fulfilled. This forum will also allow States Parties to highlight their achievements in implementing the key objectives of the Convention and their Maputo Action Plan commitments.

During this four-day annual meeting, the GICHD will be hosting the following two side events:

  • Mine Action and Sustaining Peace: Benefits and Challenges of Including Mine Action in Peace and Ceasefire Agreements | Flyer

  • Mine Action in Insecure and Unstable Environments | At this co-hosted event with the Danish Demining Group, Dan Church Aid and Handicap International, the questions of how humanitarian mine action can take place in areas characterised by lack of trust and how the sector can support efforts to in fact build trust will be addressed.
