8 December 2017

The first week of December has been busy for the Management of Residual Explosive Remnants of War (MORE) project. Following the very successful workshop on the long term risk management or ERW on Tuesday 5 December, there was a screening of the documentary “A shared experience | Striving for safety” at the Swiss Ambassador’s residence in Hanoi, Vietnam two days later.

This documentary, which initially aired on Vietnam’s national television station Defence TV on 4 April 2017, shows how the experiences from Germany, England and other European countries in managing their unexploded ordnance left over from World War II can be used to help Vietnam develop its approach to managing residual contamination of its own ERW. Vietnam is a leader in the region on its approaches to managing its residual risk, and while there is still a lot to do, this documentary highlights that Vietnam continues to be ready to prepare for the future.

The event was held on Wednesday 7 December and it was hosted by the Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam, Beatrice Maser (pictured above). GICHD Director, Ambassador Stefano Toscano and Mr. Ông Nguyễn Trọng Can, Deputy Director General of National Defense-Security Department of Vietnam both delivered opening remarks at the event.
