Iraq workshop helping to shape the revision of the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) on IEDs

A GICHD delegation was in Iraq last week to talk to representatives from the mine action community about some of the challenges when clearing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in urban and rural areas.

The results from the 2-day workshop will help shape the revisions of the International Mine Action Standard (IMAS) on IEDs. Over 60 Participants from United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), humanitarian demining partners, commercial operators, the Iraqi government, the Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Authority (IKMAA), donor governments and other key stakeholders were present at the workshop and engaged in productive discussions.

Thank you to the representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior and the Directorate of Mine Action (DMA) of Iraq for participating in this important event.

This workshop took place in Erbil, Iraq on 20-21 May 2018, it was facilitated by the GICHD and generously supported by Auswärtiges Amt - The German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO).
