16 December 2016

Zimbabwe is on track to developing its first national mine action strategy. Following a very successful workshop facilitated by the GICHD and the Zimbabwe Mine Action Centre (ZIMAC) in Harare between 13-16 December, a combination of group work and presentations has laid the groundwork for drafting a national strategy. It is anticipated that this strategy will be formally adopted by the government in mid-2017.

The workshop was attended by participants from Norwegian People's Aid, APOPO, Mines Advisory Group (MAG), The HALO Trust, United Nations Development Programme, International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Implementation Support Unit of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
