On 27 January 2021, the GICHD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) to facilitate and strengthen the cooperation and the planning of joint activities between the two organisations.

With the objective to assist national mine action authorities in the ASEAN region, the partnership encompasses establishing effective and accountable policies and capacities for the coordination, management, and implementation of operations in accordance with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and good practices.

“The MoU will help formalise and strengthen GICHD-ARMAC’s partnership in encompassing a number of areas of activity that the GICHD is committed to supporting” says Ambassador Stefano Toscano, Director of the GICHD

He added that the MoU is a new milestone that will further contribute to continued collaboration in achieving our common goals and objectives. 

The Executive Director of ARMAC, Mr. Prum Suonpraseth, highlighted “ARMAC’s existence to support the ASEAN Member States in area of mine action aligns with GICHD’s expertise in and perpetual support to mine action in the ASEAN Member States in need. Thus, ARMAC looks to strengthen its collaboration with GICHD through this three-year MoU – aiming to build community of practice and develop mine action capacity for strong regional approach to and efforts in ASEAN mine action.”

The MoU was signed by Ambassador Stefano Toscano, Director of the GICHD, and Mr. Prum Suonpraseth, Executive Director of ARMAC.
