On 23 April 2017, an armored vehicle of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (OSCE SMM) set off an explosion, likely a mine, killing one monitor and injuring two others.
Starting with this recent event, the new story map from the GICHD and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), features the data and analyses from their long-term joint research project on the humanitarian and developmental impact of anti-vehicle mines.
The first report released by the two organisations was launched in October 2014, and it tracked and analysed the available data from 1999-2014. Updates on available data from 2015 and 2016 were made in two subsequent reports, released in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Now, the two organisations have visualised all these data, with a particular focus on 2016, on a story map -- a digital platform containing interactive charts, maps, videos and more.
