UK Government pledges 46 million pounds for demining efforts

DFID – UK Department for International Development will release an additional £46 million towards the ongoing efforts for landmine clearance.

The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining will work in partnerships with MAG, The Halo Trust and Norwegians People’s Aid to accelerate clearance operations, in five countries in particular: Angola, Cambodia, Lebanon, Vietnam and South Sudan.

The GICHD will focus primarily on the development of sound national mine action strategies and on the improvement of information management in the mine action programmes of these five countries.

The GICHD praises the long-standing commitment of the UK Government to mine action which is instrumental in saving lives and promoting development.
