Alain Nellen

Standards and Operations

Alain Nellen joined the GICHD in November 2018 and holds the position of Advisor in the Research and Innovation Programme since March 2023. In his role, he acts as Advisor for research and innovation related initiatives, and on methods that improve the delivery of Explosive Ordnance Risk Reduction (EORR) operations.

In his previous position as a Programme Officer, Alain performed a range of tasks supporting project management and capacity development initiatives. He also provided thematic support on operational efficiency and standards.

Prior to joining the GICHD, Alain worked in the Multilateral Diplomacy Programme at UNITAR, where he focused on implementing policy-based capacity development initiatives. He also was a Field Researcher for the NGO Share Uganda, supporting programme development, monitoring, and evaluation initiatives in Uganda. Additionally, Alain was deployed by the Swiss Armed Forces International Command to coordinate multi-partner projects for the NATO-led peace support mission in Kosovo. Previously, Alain worked as a Stagiaire at the Science, Technology, and Education Office at the Swiss Embassy in Australia.

Alain holds a Master's degree in Development Studies with a focus on conflict, human, and social development from the Graduate Institute (IHEID) in Geneva. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Politics and Geography from Curtin University in Perth, Australia. Previously, Alain graduated with a Swiss Federal Vocational Diploma in Commerce and Business Administration.
