Valon Kumnova

Valon Kumnova joined GICHD in September 2019. As Chief of Mine Action Programmes, he is responsible for direct management of the programmes delivered by Divisions on Operational Efficiency, Strategies and Standards, Gender and Mine Action Programme, Information Management, and Grants Management and Communications.

Valon Kumnova has considerable Mine Action experience. Before joining GICHD, he worked for the HALO Trust for 20 years. During his career, he set up Mine Action programmes in Sri Lanka, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Georgia and managed programmes and operations in Cambodia, Mozambique, Abkhazia, Azerbaijan (Nagorno Karabakh region) and Somalia (including Somaliland). From 2009 to 2019, Valon Kumnova held several senior director roles in the HALO Trust including Regional Director, Chief of Staff and Director of Strategy. During this period he managed Policy, Strategy, Operations, Strategic Partnerships, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), and External Relations.  In his early career, he worked for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as a Team Leader monitoring the ceasefire in Kosovo.

Valon Kumnova is IMAS 3+ qualified. He holds a Masters on Business Administration from the Edinburgh Business School.
