Plan and implement better technical survey (TS) operations appropriately suited for different contexts.


Aim

This course aims to enhance participants’ ability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate TS operations effectively and efficiently, thereby contributing directly to an increase in operational efficiency and better planning by national authorities.


What you will learn?

The course strengthens participants’ capacity to:

  • Outline the land release process and explain concepts related to operational efficiency;
  • Analyse the general requirements of TS;
  • Analyse the expected outputs of TS;
  • Evaluate various assets and their relevance to different contexts;
  • Define a targeted and systematic approach to TS;
  • Define criteria for the cancellation and reduction of land;
  • Interpret liability issues related to TS;
  • Explain the role of information management in TS processes;
  • Explain quality management in TS processes;
  • Describe cluster munition remnant survey (CMRS) operations;
  • Conduct threat and terrain analysis.

Who should attend?

  • Staff from national authorities/mine action centres;
  • Mine action operators involved in planning and implementing TS in their respective programmes.

Mandatory e-learning courses to complete

Selected participants are required to complete the following GICHD e-learning courses:


Language level requirements

Participants should be able communicate and present on their national standards in English. The following standards of proficiency in English should be met (as described in STANAG 6001).

  • Listening: good | 3
  • Speaking: fair | 2
  • Reading: fair | 2
  • Writing: elementary | 1

Language requirements are compulsory and should be confirmed by applicants’ superiors.

Minimum Technology Requirements

  • Computer with up-to-date web browser.
  • Google Chrome is recommended
  • Mobile phone

Computer Skills

  • You will be required to: Navigate the web, Interact with the Blackboard Learning Management System
  • Use word processing software
  • Enable audio and video settings on your device(s)

Teaching approach

  • Interactive classroom teaching and practical exercises, supported by the Technical Simulator, a tool developed by the GICHD, allowing exercises to take place in a virtual environment.

Assessment

  • Individual evaluation of performance during the exercises;
  • A mini quiz at the end of each day;
  • A final written test
  • After a successfull completion of the course, you will be awarded with the certificate of achievement.
