In 2003, the Ministry of Planning and Cooperative Development took the positive step of forming the National Mine Action Authority (NMAA) to provide policy, legislation and strategic guidance for Mine Action in Iraq. The NMAA is committed to developing a comprehensive capacity to address the humanitarian and development issues surrounding the social-economic impacts of ERW. NMAA Mine Action activities include: Mine Risk Education, Victim Assistance (VA), Surveys and Mapping, and Clearance.
