This position will serve as the database specialist for the development and implementation of the Ukraine database system, as well as support the development of end-user information and analytical products to support and expand mine action in Ukraine.

Main responsibilities

  • Work closely with the GICHD Country Program Team, the Advisor for Information Management, and the Information Management Specialist to gain an understanding of the challenges associated with MA data requirements and to design database schemas, database functions, and database procedures to meet these needs and requirements.
  • Develop and design a new database strategy in coordination with the Country Programme Team, monitor and enhance database performance and capacity, and plan for the future expansion needs of the MA programme in Ukraine.
  • Conducting day-to-day geospatial and non-spatial data management (receiving, delivery, quality assurance, metadata, acceptance, indexing, and web services). Support the implementation of data repositories with regard to the design, staging, and production environments.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of Geographical Information System (GIS) databases, including enterprise Geodatabase (PostgresSQL) Server spatial databases and other databases, to ensure uninterrupted query response and data integrity while maintaining checks.
  • Provide quality control with respect to data capture, evaluation of data acquired from MA, and spatial analyses in order for the IM team to develop products that serve the IMSMA Core stakeholders.
  • Responsible for ensuring that GIS data and products are operational, accurate, accessible, usable, shareable, integrated, and correctly interpreted for IMSMA Core end-users.
  • Review and analyze the software engineering document and workflow processes using UML.
  • Provide business applications support and training to the GICHD Ukraine Team and MA stakeholders in the generation and production of information products to address day-to-day issues
  • Assist in the creation of technical documentation templates and styles.

Job requirements

  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • A working knowledge with logical database design and modelling utilising the Unified Modelling Language (UML) and related technologies.
  • Skilled at designing and implementing large (enterprise) geospatial systems, utilising enterprise architectures and solutions, including but not limited to ESRI products.
  • Skilled with RDBMS monitoring and administration tools.
  • Strong skills in SQL, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and ArcGIS Server, as well as installation and configuration of ArcSDE services on PostgreSQL geodatabases.
  • Programming expertise in PL/SQL, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Mapbox, Carto, AutoCAD, or QGIS.
  • Fluency and proficiency in both spoken and written Ukrainian, as well as a working knowledge of English or Russian, are essential.

Specific role requirements

This Role is based in Ukraine and the successful candidate will need to meet regularly with the team at the office in Kyiv.

Our organisation will not be able to provide any exemption from conscription.

Salary Information

Please note that the salary level for this role is between UAH 1 529 173,66 - 1 578 107,22, yearly gross

The GICHD applies a progressive salary scheme This is a fix-term contract.
