The IMAS review board has approved a new version of the International Mine Action Standards 09.30 on Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and a Test and Evaluation Protocol (T&EP) 09.30/01/2014 on EOD competency standards.
The revised standard:
- Clarifies EOD Level 1,2,3 and 3plus qualifications. It replaces the EOD Level 4 qualification with the EOD Level 3plus.
- Specifies the EOD Level 3plus qualification for specialist EOD operators who have been trained in areas that address specific hazards; the skills that are not routinely required in mine action.
- Refers to the EOD competencies in the newly approved "T&EP 09.30/01/2014". The new protocol provides up-to-date guidance on the competencies needed for EOD Level 1,2,3 and 3plus.
- Includes a requirement for certification. It requires a certifying training organisation or authority to explicitly list the disciplines in which the individual has been trained.
- Includes a new requirement that demining organisations must instruct EOD operators to maintain logs of their operational experience.
