From 21 - 29 October 2021- The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) visited Sri Lanka to support the Completion Process and prepare for the development of the new national mine action strategy.

With the support of the National Mine Action Centre (NMAC), the Regional Mine Action Office, the Sri Lankan Army, local operators DASH and SHARP, and HALO Trust, the GICHD team visited four operational sites within the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line – an area with densely contaminated AP and AT minefields.

The GICHD team also organised training on Land Release, with a focus on Sri Lanka’s Completion Survey with all operators in Kilinochchi, and a Mine Action Donor meeting with NMAC in Colombo to discuss the Completion Process.

We are grateful for the excellent collaboration with all stakeholders and look forward to continuing working with the Government of Sri Lanka and all the operators to implement Sri Lanka’s Completion Process over the next few years.
